| HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME WHEN SELLING This can include everything from spring cleaning, clearing out clutter, to repainting and doing repairs, and it's hard work!
But to sell, your home must compare favourably not only with others in your area but also with newly built homes. Pay special
attention to the pavement, driveway, boundary walls and entrance, as first impressions are vital.
PAVEMENT
Lawn mowed and edges trimmed
Exterior wall washed/painted
ENTRANCE Front door area - clean, neat and tidy
Spruce up with colourful pot plants
DRIVEWAY PAVING Bricks and paving in good repair, swept and uncluttered.
Remove oil stains (try washing powder!)
GARAGE Keep garage as uncluttered as possible
SWIMMING POOL Sparkling clean
Furniture with bright cushions/umbrella
Water features and ponds clean and in running order
GARDEN Remove doggy-doo's
Freshly turned beds
Grass freshly cut
Bright flowers (if possible)
Garden lighting to be in good repair if fitted
ROOF Paint if necessary and repair or replace broken tiles
LIGHTING Open curtains - let the sunshine in
Illuminate dark corners, rooms
Place mirrors strategically
KITCHEN Spotlessly clean, clean sink and stove
BATHROOM Ensure cisterns and taps are in working order
GENERAL REPAIRS Gutters
TV aerial (straighten)
Leaking taps
Broken windows
Rusted garden furniture (remove)
WASH/CLEAN Carpets
Floors
Lightfittings
Light switches
Door and Doorframes
Windows
Walls
Baths and Toilets
Curtains and /or blinds
OTHER Create space where possible
Plants - the bigger the better
Keep stairway clear
Varnish woodwork
Repaint where necessary
Tidy cupboards to create space
Repair/Fill-up all cracks in the walls
SHOWDAY/VIEWING Remove pets on showday
Turn down blaring radio/TV
Allow agents to do their job, don't tag along
Percolate coffee or put vanilla on baking tray in oven for aroma
Fresh flowers
Fresh linen - bedrooms and bathrooms
Maintain a comfortable temperature
If property is viewed in the evening, ensure all lights are switched on prior to their arrival.
